Skate Spaces
Our goal is to help create new skate spaces in Tacoma through fundraising + advocacy and to ensure that skateboarders are involved in the design and build process from start to finish.
Skateboarding is the 3rd most commonly reported physical activity of interest among high school students (Aspen Institute National Survey 2021).
Skateable Infrastructure
Urban infrastructure can be designed to accommodate skateboarders, attracting additional users to traditionally single-use utilitarian areas of public works. By integrating skate-friendly elements into existing spaces, such as storm water management and drainage, road and sidewalk construction, right of ways, park design, or even public parking lots, cities can foster a vibrant skateboard culture while promoting inclusivity and recreational opportunities. Custom-built skate obstacles can be strategically placed, ensuring seamless integration without disrupting other activities. Emphasizing safety and accessibility through well-maintained surfaces and proper signage, we can cultivate a sense of community among skaters and non-skaters alike.
